The Record
Box is a show on Leeds Student Radio.
The idea for the show came from the legendary John Peel, whose record collection featured over 100,000 vinyl and CDs, but his all time favourites were kept in a special wooden box. This record box housed the 150 records that meant the most to him, and he always kept it close. I thought this was fascinating, and wanted to know what other people would put in their ‘Record Box’ of favourites. This led to my radio show, named simply The Record Box- an hour show which got a different Leeds band live in the studio each week, talking about, and playing, the records that mean the most to them (Desert Island Discs style). As someone who loves music, and in particular the incredible scene here in Leeds I invited some of my favourite Leeds bands to share their record boxes with me and the listener, resulting in shows featuring the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses, The Rosie Taylor Project, That Fucking Tank, Grammatics and Sketches amongst others.
